GREENSBORO, N.C. — Madison Shatzer, 11, of the Hagerstown Area Summer Swimming program, placed first in the 100-meter butterfly in 1:19.65 in the girls 11-12 division at the AAU Junior Olympics in Greensboro, N.C.
Shatzer had several other top-20 finishes, placing fifth in the 200 IM (3:01.49), sixth in the 400 freestyle (5:52.51), sixth in the 100 backstroke (1:21.94), eighth in the 50 buttlerfly (35.79), 14th in the 50 backstroke (39.11), 15th in the 100 breaststroke (1:43.14), 17th in the 50 breaststroke (47.65) and 18th in the 200 freestyle (2:51.36).
Hagerstown had five other swimmers who turned in top-20 finishes.
In the 11-12 boys division, Mio Desclous, 12, placed fourth in the 400 freestyle (5:25.55), fourth in the 100 butterfly (1:20.21), fifth in the 200 freestyle (2:35.86), sixth in the 200 IM (2:59.02), seventh in the 100 freestyle (1:14.08), ninth in the 50 butterfly (35.04), ninth in the 100 backstroke (1:22.00), 11th in the 50 freestyle (32.55), 15th in the 50 backstroke (40.29) and 17th in the 100 breaststroke (1:41.60).
In 13-14 boys, Neilson Parrott, 13, finished 10th in the 200 backstroke (2:58.52), 11th in the 100 backstroke (1:20.50), 18th in the 200 freestyle (2:35.91), 18th in the 200 IM (2:58.91) and 19th in the 100 breaststroke (1:40.44).
In 8-and-under girls, Madison Bartholow, 7, placed 11th in the 50 breaststroke (1:02.92).
In 8-and-under boys, Luca Bitonti, 7, was 12th in the 50 freestyle (56.37).
In 15-18 girls, Patience Parrott, 16, was 20th in the 400 freestyle (6:24.98).
